This is a car that my wife's dad bought new in 71. He stopped driving the car because of the higher gas prices and it was defiantly economical to be the main vehicle, man if he could see gas prices today.

He dies in a car accident while picking up parts for a GO Cart race. One of her brothers got the car but it continued to sit in the yard and would not run. When they moved it was put in a field behind their house and after many attempts from other family members would not sell the car to them.

Over the years the vinyl top caused the roof to rust away and the goats walking on top it make holes in it. Me and my wife had talked about the car several times but was discouraged by other family members about trying to buy it. After I pressured her into talking to him about it he agreed to sell the car to her and her only with the understanding that it would not be resold. When he agreed to sell it to her we went immediately and picked it up. He was at work and when he called his son in a couple of hours to see if he had heard from us he told them that we had already be there got the car and gone.

As you can see from the pics it was a real mess. We bought a parts car that was in really good shape. It hurts to cut up a perfectly good car but this was a special situation. Then we drilled the roof and structure off the parts car and put it on this one. We also had to do a lot of repairs but aside from the top the rest of the car was in pretty decent shape. The body is complete now and its being painted this week. Everything else is ready to go back on and the car be reassembled. Every nut and bolt has been changed. All of the original parts where with the car. The engine had not had an intake on it for years and was a challenge but we got it rebuilt. To preserve the originality of the car the start, Alternator, distributor ETC was rebuild not replaced. The only thing that will not be original will be an A/C system that we are adding. That's a must in South Georgia if you are going to enjoy a car.

The while family comes by to check on the progress and are very excited but I have told them all that they can't see it again until it is finished in a couple months, just to add to the element of surprise when it is finished. This is going to be a very special car that everyone is proud of the time and efforts it has taken to put her back in this like new condition.

Thanks,
D.A. Pope
